Trademark rights are significantly recognized and protected in Africa. Although some African Trademark registries are yet to be automated, there is significant improvement in this area. The duration of trademark protection vary from one African country to another.

Rights to Industrial Designs are significantly recognized and protected in Africa, although the duration of protection of Industrial Designs vary from one African Country to another. In some African countries there are no regulations to support the local prosecution of Industrial Designs. As a result, Applicants may file applications for Industrial Designs through ARIPO, designating the country of interest which must be a member of ARIPO.
