Lookman is a founding Partner and the Senior Partner of the Firm.
He obtained his law degree from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, in 1980 and a Masters degree from the University of London in 1984. He also obtained a Chief Executives Programme Certificate from Lagos Business School, Nigeria.
In 1984, he joined the law firm of Bentley, Edu & Co. and become a partner in the firm in 1988. Following the integration, in 1989, of Bentley, Edu & Co with Irving & Bonnar, the oldest law firm in Nigeria, Lookman became the Managing Partner of Bentley, Edu & Co and, concurrently, a partner in Irving and Bonnar. He left Bentley, Edu & Co. in 1996 to co-found Etti, Edu & Co., which evolved to become Jackson, Etti & Edu after a merger with a leading commercial firm, Norman, Jackson Steele & Co.

Lookman is a proven real estate and commercial property consultant and has advised on a number of high profile property deals within and beyond Nigeria. His expertise spans all aspects of real estate practice including real estate sale, acquisition, development, title documentation, finance and investment. He played a key role as the legal adviser for a Dubai-based international real estate development company in respect of the development of a luxurious residential apartment in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, valued at $70 million. He continues to act as adviser for Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC) and represents the government entity on several property transactions within the state.
Lookman is a Director of Orange Island Development Company (OIDC), a high profile real estate company presently involved in Public Private Partnership with the Lagos State Government for the reclamation of a 150-hectare island in Lagos. He is also a Director in Fairway & Green Limited and was involved in the company’s acquisition of 320 hectares of land for the development of tourism and a proposed golf course in Lagos.
In relation to immigration practice, Lookman is experienced in managing the immigration portfolio of companies, providing advisory services on all aspects of immigration regulatory compliance. He supervises the team that is co-counsel to the foremost global immigration law firm and handles the immigration portfolio of a leading global computer software application development company, amongst several others.
Lookman’s area of specialization also includes Intellectual Property practice. He is a Doyen in this practice and stands tall as a leading intellectual property practitioner in Nigeria. His strides in this field are recognized locally and internationally. He is a member of a number of intellectual property organizations including INTA, ITMA, FICPI and AIPPI. He was appointed as an arbitrator to WIPO in 1995 and in 1997 was appointed as a consultant to the United Nations Development Project (UNDP) on Intellectual Property matters in Nigeria.
Lookman is also an experienced litigation lawyer, with a bias for Commercial Litigation, Intellectual property litigation, including anti-counterfeiting actions, trademark, patents and copyright infringement actions, passing off actions, etc. He worked on the Nigerian Senate Committee of the National Assembly, for Banking and Currency, as a Legal Adviser.
Over the years, Lookman’s exceptional accomplishments have been acknowledged in Who’s Who Legal publications where he has consistently been nominated as a leading legal practitioner.
