  • Overview

    Irene is a Senior Associate in the Firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practice group and the Deputy Sector Head, Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector of the firm.

    She advises on a wide range of employment matters, both contentious and non-contentious. She has over 9 years of working closely with employers and senior executives across the full spectrum of employment law issues. Her work ranges from drafting or negotiating employment arrangements for established and start-up businesses or executives, to managing dismissals, boardroom disputes, grievances and discrimination, teams moves and restraint of trade issues. She has particular interest in managing discipline and grievance at work, conducting investigations and change management, including business reorganization, collective bargaining, redundancy and workplace reduction and the employment law aspect of transfer of undertaking and outsourcing.

    Irene acts for a variety of local and multinational clients including asset and investment management businesses, technology and innovation, energy and infrastructure, professional partnerships, and their members and senior executives. She has substantial experience in dealing with Employment Tribunal litigation, assessing risk, and engaging in commercial settlement negotiations. In March 2024, she was ranked by Legal 500 EMEA as a top tier lawyer in dispute resolution.  She is committed to high standards of client service and has a reputation for providing clear strategic advice.

  • Experience

    • – Successfully represented a leading aviation company in a matter bordering on fixed term of employment before the National Industrial Court.
    • – Represented a global food and beverage manufacturing company on a dispute relating to payment of redundancy benefits.
    • – Represented an American aviation company on a trade union dispute bordering on the interpretation of Collective Agreements and payment of additional redundancy benefits.
    • – Represented a prominent Ivy League in an action filed by a Nigerian ex-employee for unlawful termination of employment.
    • – Represented an aviation company in an action before the National Industrial Court, filed by Six (6) ex-employees, bordering on the enforcement of a Conditional Training Bond.
    • – Advised and provided guidance to a leading health management organization on the conduct of its redundancy exercise.
    • – Advised a multinational oil and gas service company on the independent tax investigation conducted by a state internal revenue service on its expatriate employees.
    • – Successfully defended an Oil & Gas company in Nigeria in a class action dispute over terminal benefits and claims for redundancy.
    • – Represented a multinational electricity company in a Trade Union Dispute, sequel to a reference from the Honourable Minister of Labour & Employment. The dispute was resolved by the Industrial Arbitration Panel and subsequently appealed to the National Industrial Court. Successfully defended the interest of the company at both levels of dispute, with a favourable judgment delivered in July 2023.
    • – Represented a group of three Nigerian Subsidiaries of a leading American multinational oil services company in prosecuting a labour action against a Nigerian labour trade union.
