NDPB Extends Data Protection Audit Filing Deadline
The Nigeria Data Protection Bureau (NDPB) has issued a notice of extension of the deadline to file the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) Compliance Audit Returns for the year ended 2022 from the statutory deadline of 15th March to 30th June 2023.
Given the recent awareness by some organisations of the regulatory requirement to comply with the NDPR, the NDPB is granting organisations ample time to complete their NDPR assessments and be evaluated for inclusion in the National Data Protection Adequacy Programme (NaDPAP) Whitelist. Hence, organisations are advised to take advantage of the extended deadline to ensure that their operations comply with the NDPR and file before the extended deadline, as there would not be a further extension by the NDPB.
In line with Article 4.1(4) of the NDPR, Data Protection Compliance Organizations (DPCOs) have been licensed to provide compliance services to all data-handling organisations. Therefore, we recommend seeking technical advice from a licensed DPCO on compliance with the NDPR.
