Newsletter on NOTAP Technology Transfer and Local Vendor Policy.
On the 22nd of June 2023, the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) established 64 Intellectual Property Technology Transfer Offices (IPTTOs) in various research and tertiary institutions across the nation. The primary objective of this initiative is to facilitate the patenting of Research and Development (R&D) outcomes aimed at regulating the influx of foreign technology into Nigeria.
Furthermore, NOTAP has a local vendor policy specifically geared towards fostering the growth of local participants in the ICT sector. This policy seeks to enhance the capacity of domestic players in software development. Consequently, several local entities have already begun exporting software to other African nations. In line with this, Dr. DanAzumi Mohammed Ibrahim, the Director General of NOTAP, expressed the office’s commitment to supporting inventors and innovators in the process of patenting their research endeavours. NOTAP will facilitate this process at no cost by managing the filing and payment of fees on their behalf at the Patent Registry under the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment.
