Toyosi Odunmbaku

Toyosi is a Partner in our Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice group, where he leads teams in the IP Litigation and Commercial Litigation practice. He is also a Co-Sector Head of the Health & Pharmaceuticals sector team of the firm.

A veritable avenging angel for IP infringement, Toyosi regularly engages in high-level courtroom advocacy at the High Courts, the Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court. He is also involved in Opposition matters at the Registry of Trademarks. He has acted for several international and local high-profile corporate clienteles operating in diverse sectors of the economy. Toyosi’s practice cuts across complex litigation that extends to Contractual Disputes, Shareholder Disputes, White Collar Crime matters, Oil & Gas Disputes, Intellectual Property Rights Prosecution, Enforcement, and Litigation. He has coordinated several successful enforcement actions such as raids against counterfeiters. If you have a brand and products to protect, Toyosi is your legal guardian. 

Recent high-profile cases that Toyosi has successfully won with our team of IP lawyers include a NGN5,000,000,000 (5 billion naira) award of damages on behalf of a multinational Fast-Moving Consumer Goods manufacturer that initiated a trademark infringement action to protect its trademark rights. Toyosi and his team also won a landmark appeal with an award of US$500,000,000 (Five Hundred Million Dollars) damages in a headline-making appellate proceeding in which the Court successfully prosecuted a multinational automobile manufacturer. And recently, Toyosi handled a shareholders’ dispute which led to a monetary settlement of EUROS 8,000,000 (Eight Million Euros) for a client in medical diagnostics industry in Nigeria.  

Toyosi is equally a specialist in Crisis Management, Dawn Raids, and Risk Assessment and particularly assists companies in Risk Mitigation and Compliance with anti-money laundering requirements and dawn raids related to this. He is also involved in Labour and Employment matters and is co-leading the team in defending a portfolio of 164 matters against a client in the oil servicing business in Nigeria.
