Chinyere Okorocha

Chinyere is a Partner in our Intellectual Property Practice. She also doubles as Head of Health & Pharmaceuticals Sector.

She has over 30 year’s practical experience, covering all aspects of IP, and related issues, particularly the prosecution of Trademarks, Patents & Designs; Commercial IP advice & general Portfolio Management, IP Enforcement & Brand Protection, Infringement & Anti-Counterfeiting, Copyright, Media & Entertainment Law. At present, she offers advice and is responsible for the portfolio management of various blue-chip companies, both locally & internationally.

Chinyere Okorocha is highly respected in the market, with one peer explaining that “you can’t speak about IP in Nigeria without speaking about Chinyere, a leading practitioner.” She handles the portfolios of international clients from healthcare, tourism and commerce, advising on patent applications and regulatory issues.

In recent years, her practice interests have extended to Foreign Direct Investment, particularly in the Pharmaceutical & Healthcare Industry. She also advises government agencies on IP related issues, particularly Law reform. She was admitted into the Council of the Nigerian Bar Association, Section on Business Law in August 2016. Prior to that, she served as the immediate past Chairperson of the Intellectual Property (IP) Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, Section on Business Law; she is a Patron of The Law Society, Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, and a member of the Dispute Resolution Panel of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC).

Chinyere was nominated as one of Nigeria’s 50 most influential women in the Legal Profession (Business Day Newspaper, April 2011), and has featured in various of legal guides, including the Trademark Law Practitioners Expert Guides (2012 – 2017) published by Euromoney (UK); and was recognized as an IP Star (2014 – 2017) in Managing IP’s (UK) definitive guide to Leading IP Lawyers. She has also been recognized as one of the worlds’ leading Trademark Professionals for 2016 & 2017, in the World Trademark Report WTR 1000, a UK Publication, and Who is Who Legal (WWL) 2017 as an IP Expert.
