Introduction of Biometric Data Enrolment with Fees for Travellers on Visa On Arrival
Further to a directive by the Federal Ministry of Interior in late 2017 on a planned phased introduction of Nigerian Biometric Visas, the Nigerian Immigration Service has begun the implementation of this directive by the introduction of compulsory biometric data enrolment for Nigerian Visas issued on arrival (VoA) with effect from June 13th, 2018.
The implication of this directive is that travelers coming into Nigeria on the Visa on Arrival (VoA) scheme will be required to undergo a compulsory biometric data enrolment at the entry port on arrival. This enrolment will attract an extra charge of $90 (Ninety US Dollars) per applicant, excluding Visa fees, which can ONLY be paid in person on arrival at the airport using credit/debit cards.
All travelers coming into Nigeria on Visa on Arrival are therefore advised to plan their schedule appropriately to accommodate some extra time for the biometric enrolment and have their credit/debit cards at hand with enough funds for the $90 biometric charge (and the Visa fees if not previously paid online) as cash payments WILL NOT be accepted. Please note that Mastercard, Visa and American Express cards are accepted.
